Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe, American actress, singer, and model from the late 40s and 50s. Marilyn Monroe has been one of the greatest female stars in America. She is love by many, both men and women. Marilyn Monroe is a combination of sexuality and innocence, as we can see in this picture. This picture shows why she was loved by both sexes. Her outfit and body tell how she was a very sexy woman; she knew what she had and she knew how to work it. But her face and hands contrast her body and outfit. Her face expression is one of innocence; her hands show softness. Even though, she was a very sexy woman, she was still an innocent and normal woman. Many men loved her because of her attributes, her sexuality, and her charisma. But women loved her because she was a wisdom woman with lots of things to say. One of her most famous quotes is "a wise girl kisses but doesn't love, listens but doesn't believe, and leaves before she is left." Quotes like this are what made her be loved by many women.

Slumdog Millionaire

Destiny, love, religion, money, and brotherhood are the best words that can describe this film. Slumdog Millionaire is a film that in my opinion, transmits an important message to its audience. The main word that describes the film is destiny. Was it their destiny to be together? Destiny is an important word that many people believe in. Destiny creates faith and gives a reason to keep living. Then we have the word love. Jamal meets Latika when they are kids, and he learns to take care of her and to protect her. He feels its his destiny to love her and be with her. Therefore, he loves her and does everything for love. Then, we have religion. Religion is the reason his mom died. Religion is what kept his brother alive. Religion is the reason came together with destiny. We can also see how money plays an important role in the movie. Is money the only way we can obtain what we want? It seemed that money was the only was he could obtain Latika. His brother lived by money. The whole film was about who has more money and what can money can do for you. Finally, we see brotherhood. Even though, Jamal's brother play him dirty several times, he knew what his duty was. The film is about how this two brothers tried to find what is best for them, but at the end they know they will save each others' lives.

Les Chanson D'Amours/Love Songs

Les Chansons D'Amour is an interesting French film. In my opinion it has been a revolutionary in the US. I do not know how the French audience thinks about this film, but in the US this movie talks and shows things that we are still not really use to, or we still do not accept it as something normal. The movie is divided in three sections and the main character is dating someone, but this relationship has incorporated a third person. Then, something odd happens and the protagonist's girlfriend dies, creating the second section of the movie. When she dies, he enters in a denying phase. The way he deals with it is by looking for consolation in other peoples' arms, either females or males. Then, the third part of the movie starts when he realizes that she has died and he finally accepts the fact that she won't be back. Finally, he decides that he has found someone that can take care of him, another guy. The movie ends with him accepting this other guy that has feelings for him. I feel this film creates controversies for a traditional audience like the US.

"Behind La Gare St. Lazarre, 1932" by Henri Cartier Bresson

Henri Cartier Bresson is a very famous photographer and he is well known for taking pictures at the right moment; he is known for the decisive moment. He is there at the perfect time to take a picture and it has been said that he has never created the scenario for his pictures. He loves street photography, as we see in his picture Behind La Gare St. Lazarre, 1932. This is one of my favorite pictures because it is considered street photography and still it creates a different world. In my opinion, the fact that he takes the picture before the guy steps on the water creates a new different world. It seems that this person is walking in the water; it seems this person can be running without falling in the water. This image, this person gives power to the whole picture. The way his shadow is in the water makes me think that he is part of the water; that he owns the water. The shadows and the colors of the pictures make it seem like something important and mysterious. Everything happening at that moment worked together to create a powerful, but simple picture.

Happy Days: 50s Ads

The 50s are known as the "happy days." In my opinion, advertisements from the 50s explain in detail what those days were about. The ad I found was a ketchup ad. I will first like to talk about the colors of that decade. You can clearly see that the colors of that time are yellows, pinks, greens, blues, etc. It is a very colorful time, in my opinion all these colors try to show that there is life. They are trying to show that everything was okay; that everything was happy. Secondly, most of the ads had pictures of women. This makes me think that the women was the one that maintain a happy home, a happy place. They were also used in a sexual way to sell things, as they are used today. But, the expression of this lady is like of surprise. She seems like she does not know what to do. She is just supposed to look pretty and be at home. The, the words of the ad are "you mean a woman can open it...?" This phrase makes the woman look dumb and weak. It is clear where is the women's position at that time. These ads clearly want to transmit happiness, but at the same time they put the women as something inferior.

El Infierno

El Infierno is a Mexican film that describes the current situation of Mexico. Mexico right now has had a lot of drug issues and there has been a lot of violence in the last couple of years. El Infierno shows how things work in Mexico and what it is happening in this country. This is a great movie because it shows in detail how a country is being dominated by drug dealers. The film shows how the government has failed. The director of the film, Luis Estrada, makes sure that the audience of the movie, most of them Mexicans, understand the situation in which the country is. It is completely different to read about all these deaths and drug problems than watching the film. The film shows to the audience emotions and reality. Even though, it is not based in someone in particularly, this film has shown in detail what is happening. The director of the film is not afraid to show how they kill people, how the government works, why people gets involved, and what happens when you get involve. The film shows the human side of what we just read in the news. Therefore, this film has captured my attention, because it is a film that shows the current situation of a country that needs a lot of help.

Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies by Monet

Claude Monet was a great impressionist. My love for him started because of my mom; she taught me to learn to appreciate his paintings. One of my favorites is Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies. One of Monet's signatures are water lilies. You can find water lilies in several of his paintings. But this painting is my favorite. In my opinion, he can transmit every thing by this painting. The colors and they way he painted the bridge and the water lilies brings me peace and serenity. It seems that this place was where he rested, where he got inspired. The lilies are what make this painting special. Water lilies seem to be something simple, something a lot of people would not pay attention to. But Monet paints them and the way he does it is spectacular. He makes his audience notice something simple, and he takes it beyond making the audience have a peaceful time looking at his paintings.

Maddona 80s

When Madonna started, she caused a new revolution. Madonna has been one of the greatest entertainers in a long time. She was able to give the audience everything they asked for, and she still does. As we can see in this picture, she is able to combine innocence with sexuality. She is never stays in the line; she is able to go beyond expectations. This picture of the 80s is a great example. In the picture, Madonna is wearing white colors, which in my opinion are a color of innocence. But the audience can clearly see the "boy toy" belt that she is wearing. This is a big contrast, she is giving innocence and sexuality to the audience. Her face is of innocence, but her body expresses sex. She knows how to sell to every kind of audience. Madonna has been one of the greatest artist in a long time.

The Black Swan

The Black Swan has been a revolutionary film, even for the 21st century. The film has been such a revolutionary film, because it has created a new world, a different world that people is not able to see. Perfection has been seen as something impossible, something not a lot of people can reach. The Black Swan has been able to bring perfection to a whole new level. Perfection has been something impossible, or you may reach perfection but you cannot maintain perfection. So, Black Swan showed that you can reach perfection and maintain it forever. During the film, Natalie Portman is trying to reach perfection. She has an internal fight with herself to reach perfection. At the end of the film, she is able to reach it and to maintain perfection, she killed herself. Because, what can beat perfection?
